Clarification for Upcoming NAfME Conferences

Recently the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) announced a call for proposals and a new format for a conference scheduled in Nashville, October 27-30, 2013.  Details and proposal applications appear on the NAfME Website. Anyone is invited to submit a 60 minute, 1/2 day, or full day proposal which would be of particular interest to practitioners.

The 2013 Nashville conference does not replace the 2014 NAfME conference in St. Louis, nor does it supplant the 2013 SMTE Greensboro Symposium. The two conferences will have quite different purposes.  The Nashville conference is designed for PreK-12 practitioners and organized as a professional development opportunity, as a glance at the application questions makes clear.  A research poster session is not planned.

The 2014 St. Louis conference, organized by SRME and SMTE, will mirror the 2012 St. Louis conference designed for the needs of the higher education and research communities.  Expect a formal call for presentation and research poster session proposals in April-May 2013.

For your planning purposes, below are the announced dates for upcoming conferences.

    • SMTE-Greensboro  Sept 26-29, 2013 (teacher education)
    • NAfME-Nashville    October 27-30, 2013 (professional development for practitioners)
    • NAfME-St Louis      April 10-12, 2014 (research/higher education/administration)
    • NAfME-Nashville   October 26-29, 2014 (professional development for practitioners)
