Pathways to Licensure

Please note: this ASPA has elected to become inactive as of 2013. Over time the functions of this ASPA and the examination of issues relating to licensure have been taken up within the contextual areas of the other ASPAs. Please visit any of the other ASPAs for further information.

The purpose of the Pathways to Licensure ASPA is to gather data and provide a forum for discussing issues related to the multiple pathways to licensure in music education.

Current Projects & Goals

1. Revise MENC Policy statement on alternative pathways to music teacher licensure.

2.  Review the data collected by the ASPA on multiple licensure pathways and plan future directions.

3. Conduct a policy analysis on alternative pathways in collaboration with the Policy ASPA.

4.  Consider whether the ASPA should be subsumed into other ASPAs.
