After months of planning and investigating options, SMTE must now announce that our 2021 Symposium on Music Teacher Education will be held in an online/virtual format on September 16-18, 2021.
The SMTE Board carefully considered many options for site and format, including excellent options proposed by members who responded to our call for site suggestions in July. We have carefully weighed the priorities described in the policy we have adopted for Procedures and Values for Symposium Site Selection. We had hoped that an in-person venue for the Symposium would emerge, but unfortunately the current uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately made it impossible to secure a site.
While this is not the ideal situation the board had hoped for in planning the 2021 Symposium, we are committed to offering an event that continues the important work of SMTE and the ASPAs while allowing music teacher educators to share research and practices with colleagues. Further details about the event format will be provided in the coming months. Participants can look forward to live sessions and opportunities to interact with other attendees.
The Call for Proposals for the 2021 Symposium will be released soon. Please watch the SMTE website (smte.us) and Facebook page for announcements. You can also visit smte.us/2021 to go directly to the 2021 Symposium page for all future event updates.
