Are you planning to attend the 2017 Symposium on Music Teacher Education for the first time, or perhaps returning after a few years? Have you heard past attendees talking about ASPAs and wondered what secret code they were speaking in? Learn all about the ASPAs with a new series of audio podcasts on the SMTE website!
SMTE has 12 Areas of Strategic Planning and Action, or ASPAs. These groups help music teacher educators and researchers coordinate efforts around major topics of interest to the profession. The ASPAs will hold working sessions during the 2017 Symposium, which will give attendees a chance to meet with other individuals interested in similar areas of music teacher education. There is no “membership” requirement, and attendees are welcome to visit with one or more ASPA that may interest you during the working sessions. Evolving over the past 10 years, attendees have reported that the ASPA working sessions have become one of the most valuable aspects of the biennial Symposia.
Symposium attendees are encouraged to learn more about the ASPAs in advance of the event so you can choose how you want to engage in Minneapolis. Visit the ASPA main page for links to all ASPAs, and an overview podcast from ASPA Coordinator Dr. Tami Draves. The podcasts you find on each ASPA page are playable in any web browser on your computer or mobile device.
