Professional Development for the Beginning Teacher

The purpose of the Professional Development for the Beginning Teacher ASPA is to identify and describe effective models of mentoring and support programs for new music teachers, and encourage further research and strategic action in this area.

Goals

The Professional Development for the Beginning Teacher ASPA has established the following action items:

  • Develop a Conference Session for Presentation at Various State Music Education Conferences
  • Complete the eKit Collaboration with the Experienced Teacher ASPA
  • Write a Descriptive Status Report on Selected State Music Organizations’ Professional Development Initiatives for Beginning Teachers
  • Compile a Comprehensive Literature Review on Professional Development for Beginning Teachers
  • Register Interested Music Teachers on musicedmentors.org
  • Develop On-line Mentor Training on musicedmentors.org
  • Pursue Research on Model Mentor Programs
  • Develop Two Proposals for Submission to SMTE 2013
